Day 3 (July 6), 6:00 PM By 6 PM, a little more than half-way down the Cassiar, I was nearing my night's stop, a large log resort named Bell 2 Lodge because it's near the second (from the south) highway crossing of the Bell River. Lots of mosquitoes there, and a too-costly internet connection, but the fee did include use of nice showers. A nice young couple tenting beside me had to have their Honda Civic (with alternator trouble) towed from 20 km north of Bell 2 to Smithers, another 157 miles down Rt 37 and 68 miles east on Rt 16. They figured that the towing cost alone meant the end of their vacation. At every mileage-to-Smithers sign my audio notes record "poor young folks!"
